Logan gets tubes

We took Logan tuesday morning to get his tubes, we had to be there at 6:30 am which wasn't so fun, but we made it! He had just started to get a cold so I had checked with the nurse at the ear, nose and throat specialist the day before to make sure it was okay to go ahead with the surgery. She said that they would check to make sure he didn't have a fever or fluid in his lungs and if both of those were negative that they could do the surgery. So he checked out okay, we went back to a room that had a tv and talked with a nurse who got his history. He already had a get well balloon with Eeyore on it! He was entertained with that for awhile. A few minutes later the doctor came in to say hi, then the anesthesiologist came in to check Logan out and talk to us about the procedure. He gave him a bubble gum flavored gas and said he would take 4 or 5 breaths of it and be out. At this point they took him to surgery. The doctor said the surgery was about 5 minutes then they would take him to recovery until he wakes up them immediately bring him to us. So in about 10 minutes from when he left the doctor came back in to tell us everything went well. His right ear had a lot of thick fluid and he removed as much as he could. the left only had a small amount. We have to give him drops in his ears for a week to make sure there isn't an infection. Then 10 more minutes and a nurse brought in our very sleepy baby! He was a little fussy, was trying to hold his head up and couldn't do it very well. They said we could leave as soon as he drank something. It took him about 10 minutes to want to drink and we stayed for a little while longer. He was pretty calm as long as you were standing, didn't want you to sit down. Pretty normal for him though... The nurse said he was very calm compared to other babies after the procedure. We headed home and he conked out in the car. He was a little fussy that day but not too bad.

Then night came, he went down with no issues, very easy and we were very hopeful the tubes would give us the miracle of uninterrupted sleep again! But after a wake up at 8:30 and 11 we weren't too hopeful anymore. since he has a cold also, he is coughing a lot, so that is what was keeping him up, thing the tubes were fine. He got up around 5am and as long as I stayed in his room he was fine, so I took a little nap in there till 6:30 then went back to bed. He was very happy the next morning so we were hopeful! He then turned a little crabby and ended up throwing up at breakfast while I was feeding him yogurt. He had a pretty bad cough by then so think the gunk in his nose/throat made him choke. Wednesday night he went to sleep very easily, just laid him down and walked out! We haven't been able to do that for awhile since his ear issues. He slept great until 3:30 am when he woke and we realized he was very, very hot. Took his temp and it was 101.9 so gave some tylenol and stayed with him for about an hour until he fell back asleep. He went down about 4:30 and then woke again at 6:30, still had a fever but it was down some, got him back to sleep and when he woke at 8:30 his temp was back up again. So called the ENT doc and they said to bring him in.

Turns out his tubes were fine, they said he had a virus. So came home, gave him fish sticks for lunch he ate one and then started coughing, then gagging, then lost everything he had ate already. He actually seems to feel okay after that. Then after talking to Susan, my pediatric nurse friend only gave him clear liquids and applesauce and babyfood for dinner. He was still hungry and asking for more so on his third tub of babyfood, he again lost it all :( He was exhausted that night and went to bed by 6:30 but again was up that morning for an hour or so. He hasn't thrown up since and he has now had his normal meal of chicken nuggets. He is eating better but still not sleeping too well.

So looks like we have another virus to get through and then hopefully he will be well for awhile! Maybe a week or 2 at least, that's all we are asking for at this point!
